It has been 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and introducing viewers to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang

In the teaser shows Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser avoids is what the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the insignia pinned to her shirt.

Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the group.
