The Life Cycle of a Cult tends to be defined by clear stages.

1. The Core Concept

An inspiring figure or coaches present a revolutionary approach pledging a cure for disconnected individuals.

And so it goes. Plans are in motion to storm the compound in Australia. Tensions are rising. Smoke is rising from the sidelines. One individual, vulnerable, shivering, the phrase ATTACKING MINDSET written on his body as a statement, has come staggering from the field and is taken aside with discretion to a different team in county cricket.

Remember the early days, when everything was fresh? The days of Bazball 1.0, of uninhibited aggression.

2. Initial Adoration

Team architects promise a reboot, hope for a future, support, redemption within a community with shared faith in the method.

How did it feel at first? Just men on a balcony feeling good. Body art. Strength. Focus. Confident masculinity. Oh sure, The squad often say it’s not a real term, ironically as it’s denied, what exactly did I just watch?

But we know its essence. It’s the player playing a shot so outrageous it has to be pixelated. It’s the adrenaline of the captain at his peak, a look that says: focused titan, strong features, untamed style, genuinely raw you almost imagine to notice and notice he’s fielding on the ground shirtless and cradling a wild salmon.

It’s the opener still being allowed addressing the media, appearing as a cheerful animal in a waistcoat, saying stuff like we’re breaking down traditions. Certainly, the atmosphere, for a significant period, was entirely positive.

3. A New Life

Conversely, there is the broader context of the opponent’s mixed ingrained annoyance with the aggressive tourists, claiming, hey, that thing you love and have honed as one way of separating yourself from the opposition, it’s just a joke in the end old boy.

Here lies the truth. Everything is a cult. Bazball was a cult as the game has its own culture. Or rather, the sport in England is closed, a group, a private event, an insular community with centuries of tradition and mystery behind it. This has always been where entry is limited. It’s the colonial game of the nation, the pioneering brand. And guess what, the country is a phenomenon, a series of esoteric hierarchies, a royal family remains.

The players have been enclosed in this environment for years. Seeking change, to foster positivity, they are mirroring their own experience, forming a new circle, a closed circle, but doing it this time with a modern squad and a coach promoting authenticity if you fit the mold.

Focus on the moment. Run towards the danger. However much you change, you remain stuck.
