Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev secured his initial trophy for nearly 30 months with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a challenging year, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in specific - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually separating with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now working with his coach and Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily advanced in the past month - culminating in a closely contested competitive victory over opponent Moutet.

It is Medvedev's maiden title following the Rome competition and initial on a hardcourt since March of that year.

Victory also signifies the Russian has won twenty-one titles at twenty-one different tournaments.

"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my both daughters simultaneously, so to get a championship is particularly special," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my second daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six finals, including in Halle previously this season.

His counter-punching strategy and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had led commentators to wonder if his skill to play at the top level was finished.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and perform positively, backed up by an improved serve.

The champion came back from a break down in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, taking four of the last five points to go ahead.

Both players traded breaks in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his first tour victory, took control to push for a third set.

The opponent saved four early-game break points in a tight third set before the Russian secured a break to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned the title with a shot at the net area, with his opponent failing to control a shot after over two and a half hours.
