Around fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Vehicles, walls and postboxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.

Law enforcement state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.

The substance had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.

Law enforcement then found many other smeared vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.

Law enforcement state preliminary tests suggest the substance was probably human bodily fluid.

"There is still no lead as to its source; authorities are not yet aware of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they stated.

City officials said they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the community for details.

A high-ranking representative stated the incident left him stunned and needed to be solved rapidly.

"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he posted on a platform, referring to the death of nine victims by a assailant focusing on residents of migrant background in February 2020.
